We love to tell the world about all the fantastic awards that our talented clients win throughout the year. The latest is the wonderful Janet Maitland of Janet Maitland Hair Excellence in Durham, who was recentlyawarded the Inspire Me award in the North East Business Woman of the Year awards (WIN Awards), for the success of her three salons, her work in the local community and her contribution to hairdressing in developing countries through Schwarzkopf Professional’s Shaping Futures initiative!

This is such a well-deserved award, as Janet’s sense of community is unrivaled, with all the regular support she gives to young carers in the area, her campaigning to heighten support for the local high street, plus she is a beacon of inspiration to those living with mental health challenges.

It’s Janet’s selfless approach to all that she does that set her above others. Not only has she proven to be a fantastic leader and director of her award-winning salon group, supporting her staff emotionally and helping them reach their full potential, she takes the time to work with charities close to her heart such as Stray-Aid, RSPCA, the Mental Health Trust, the Durham’s Women’s Refuge and many more.

Arguably Janet’s biggest commitment outside of her salon business is working with Schwarzkopf Professional on their Shaping Futures initiative. The programme trains young people in developing countries with the skills they need to become a hairdresser and from there, build their own sustainable careers and a life where they have hope and opportunity for a better future. Janet has taken her work to both India and Jordan over the years to share her skills and help to change lives, and has since been named as Shaping Futures’ UK ambassador, allowing her to also train and interview candidates each year and help them with their fundraising.

Having seen first-hand the difference that education can make in developing areas, Janet is now embarking on a training and mentoring programme for Syrian refugees who have had to flee their country and are now based in the North East of England. It’s these selfless acts that make Janet the perfect winner of such an inspirational accolade.

Congratulations Janet!
